Brainstorming

I just realized my sister might have contracted HIV. So, I'm going to pose a question to D&D.

What is HIV good for? What can we do with it? Since it obviously can't be cured or else it would have been cured by now, what sorts of uses can we have for such a simple, dumb, and pragmatic engine as a self-replicating virus? I mean, HIV is so pragmatic that it can't be outwitted.

So, what could we use a self-replicating virus that suppresses the immune system for? How can we turn something like that into our advantage? If we can find a potential evolutionary advantage to having HIV, it could be something like the probable origins of mitochondria -- two separate organisms fusing together and then coexisting as one. Think, we're living in the future. Use your imaginations. My sister is a little important to me. :)
